In this third and final episode of our TRVL° Scouting China photography series, we explore the incredible landscapes of Zhangjiajie, home to the towering sandstone peaks that inspired the floating mountains in Avatar. From misty sunrises and dramatic cliffside viewpoints to cinematic drone scenes deep within the national park, this was one of the most surreal places we have photographed in a long time. Up there with some of the most photogenic landscapes I have ever seen. Unreal!

Are drones allowed in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park?
Yes, if you register your drone with the Chinese Civil Aviation. Our local guide helped us with the registration, and we were able to fly freely at most viewpoints.
What is the best time to visit to avoid crowds?
Come in the spring shoulder season (April-May) on a weekday, not during holidays. We had many spots to ourselves, especially early morning and late afternoon.
