Yul Daze lands in Beijing after a smooth high-speed rail from Inner Mongolia, settling into the compact but cozy Jianguo Hidden Hotel in Wangfujing. His first day kicks off with a food crawl through Nan Luo Gu Xiang, where he samples traditional snacks at Cha Tang Li – including the chewy Nai Juan (milk rolls) and the savory Men Ding Rou Bing. He also discovers addictive butterfly pastries at Hong Hua Dian Xin Ju, then wanders through the lively Shi Cha Hai Park before diving into a copper-pot Shuan Rou hotpot dinner at Bai Nian Qian Men Tong Guo Shuan Rou, praising the fresh meat and impeccable service.
Day two brings a guided tour of Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. Yul marvels at the scale of the imperial palace, learning about Mao's portrait, Fengshui principles, and the tragic story of Consort Zhen. He recommends a guided tour to truly appreciate the history. For lunch, a local taxi driver steers him away from touristy spots to Huang Jia Bing Jiao Xiao Yuan, where he enjoys Peking duck (with candied skin) and the surprisingly dry Zha Jiang Mian. Afternoon shopping in Sanlitun includes a stop at Gentle Monster for sunglasses adjustment and a Dubai chewy cookie at Our Bakery.
