Travel Guides & Tips in this video

Silberventures spends Chinese New Year with family in Hong Kong, first fixing a bicycle seat after a previous bike was stolen, then meeting Sydney and the children for lunch. They visit a playground and nearby shopping area before heading to the Avenue of Stars, where crowds gather for the year-of-the-dragon parade. The family watches from around 1881 Heritage as the parade begins, then leaves early to beat the crowds and reach the MTR. At about 10:14 p.m. they still have not eaten dinner; back near their starting point, they expect Cafe de Coral may be closed and go to McDonald’s.

A parade returns to Hong Kong

After a few years away, Hong Kong held a public parade for Chinese New Year and the Year of the Dragon. A huge crowd gathered along the route to watch.

The celebration

The participants put on a show the creator praises. The family spends the day with Sydney and the children, watches the crowded parade route and leaves early to reach the MTR before the rush.

A Hong Kong Lunar New Year parade day

Silberventures opens on Chinese New Year day planning to see the parade, but first replaces a bicycle seat. The creator says a nearly new bike had been stolen before and that they now double-lock their bikes. He then meets Sydney and the children for lunch, and the family eats and talks about the food. They visit a playground and a nearby shopping area, where the creator mentions public housing and a smart book cabinet.

The Avenue of Stars fills up

In the early evening they are at the Avenue of Stars, already busy as people prepare for the parade. The crowd becomes so dense that the creator cannot hold the phone away from his face. They get a snack, then go up to 1881 Heritage, a place they visited ten years earlier. He says he still likes it, while noting that nearby K11 is a popular shopping mall taking business from it.

Leaving early for the MTR

The parade starts later in the evening. The family leaves a little early to beat the crowds and get on the MTR before it becomes too crowded. They are tired and hungry; late in the evening they say they have not yet eaten dinner. Back near where they started, they think Cafe de Coral is probably closed and choose McDonald's, which they say is the only place available to them.
