The UNREAL Hike in China… But How Do I Get. This was filmed by AndreasTheGreat. Watch the full journey and explore the filming details and destinations on this page.

Today I'm hiking the famous Dragon’s Back Trail in Wushan, China, in the spectacular Three Gorges region. The trail takes me high into the mountains, through clouds, rain, endless stairs and some incredible scenery.

I started the hike from the bottom and spent around 5 hours making my way up the Dragon’s Back. The weather wasn't exactly perfect, but that made the adventure even more interesting! The Dragon’s Back Trail reaches around 1,100 meters above sea level and offers incredible mountain views over Wushan and the surrounding Three Gorges landscape. And the best part? The hike itself is FREE!

After reaching the top, the adventure wasn't over. I still had to figure out how to get back to Wushan city… with no bus, no clear signs and very few people around. Luckily, I managed to find a ride back to the city.

If you're planning to visit Wushan, China, or explore the Three Gorges, this could be an amazing day hike to add to your itinerary.

Dragon’s Back Trail in Wushan

AndreasTheGreat starts the Wushan Dragon's Back Trail hike from the bottom of the route in Wushan, in Chongqing’s Three Gorges region. Walking the trail is free, though he says a taxi to the starting point costs money. He suggests asking your hotel to help arrange the ride and uses Google Translate because he doesn’t speak Chinese. The route has long stair sections and a resting point with stalls that appear closed. Andreas climbs through cloud and rain, and says the trail reaches around 1,100 meters above sea level. When the clouds lift, he can see Wushan and the surrounding mountains. He had only one day in the area and would choose a clear day for the views if he could plan the hike again.

A mountain hike in Chongqing

After around five hours of walking, Andreas reaches the end of the ridge route. He says hikers can start from different points and that he would begin farther along the trail next time; the final section along the Dragon’s Back was his favorite part. Reaching the end doesn’t solve the return trip: there are no clear signs, no bus and very few people around. He walks downhill through farmland while looking for transport, then finds a local ride back to Wushan.
