This is part 2 of my land border crossing from Kyrgyzstan into China. After finalizing the formalities in Kyrgyzstan, I am now entering China, where immigration and customs procedures begin. It's mandatory to cross China with a guide, so for this journey through china, I won't be traveling solo, but with Mr. Bing. Without him it's not even possible to buy petrol, as you need to scan your Chinese ID card for that!

Here I teach all my filming techniques including getting drone shots while riding!

The day unfolds with a mix of practical hurdles and small moments of camaraderie: the busy border scene, the careful coordination with Mr. Bing who will accompany her further and handle tasks like licensing and fueling, and the surprisingly smooth customs once the two-hour lunch break and road construction delays are navigated. I entered WESTERN CHINA 🇨🇳 | S8, EP113

Itchy Boots begins with a tense wait at the Kyrgyzstan China border, noting the long lines and the challenge of a last Kyrgyzstan checkpoint. She reflects on the cold and the constant flux of traffic, watching trucks arrive comically full of cars. Once in China, she encounters the immigration checkpoint, practicing a few basic Chinese phrases while acknowledging her limited language skills. The process is thorough but friendly, with the officials speaking little English. She anticipates the next steps: a long drive to Topa for a separate customs session and the need for a Chinese driver’s license that will require Mr. Bing’s help. A key constraint she reveals is that fuel in China requires a Chinese ID card, meaning she cannot refuel solo. The two-hour lunch break complicates timing, but they manage to reach Topa just before the break ends. Throughout, she notes the new road, the imposing signs, and the stunning mountain scenery as they descend from the pass. The two bikes, Frankie and Mr. Bing’s Triumph, will travel in tandem with the car transporting her luggage temporarily. After the customs checkpoint, she finds a hotel for the night and receives a welcome panda from Mr. Bing, symbolizing her entry into the region of pandas. The episode closes with a satisfying first Chinese meal, savory fried beef with chili and other dishes, and a sense of relief and exhaustion after a demanding day of border formalities. She hints at tackling the Chinese driver’s license and vehicle readiness in the next episode, signaling a new chapter in her China journey.
