What was the most isolated town you stayed in?
Tazong, a town in the middle of the Taklamakan Desert with only 1,000 permanent residents and sand dunes in every direction.
How did you avoid running out of fuel?
We rode carefully, watched our fuel range, and planned to buy a few extra liters at small villages along the route.
What was the police escort like?
They were very curious, asked if I was American or if Bing was my husband, then escorted us through the village and even watched us eat.
Did you try any local food?
Yes, I tried pig feet with dried chili. It was sticky, spicy, and quite good, though I've had pig brain before which was more disgusting.
