Hidden just outside Chengdu, Dujiangyan Panda Base is hands down the best place to see pandas in China! Unlike the Chengdu Panda Base, this sanctuary is less crowded, more relaxed, and honestly… the pandas seem way happier here. Plus, it has a free-roaming red panda area, where these little fluffballs can literally walk right past you. Spoiler: One did. And we LOST it. 😍. Beyond the pandas, we also explore Dujiangyan’s stunning ancient irrigation system, grab some Jianbing (aka China’s best street food?), and even stumble upon some unexpected alpacas—because why not?. If you’re planning a trip to Chengdu, trust us—skip the crowds and come here instead. This panda experience is next level!

The highlight was a free-roaming red panda area where a red panda walked right past them! Beyond pandas, they explored the ancient irrigation system, enjoyed Jianbing, and even encountered alpacas. They highly recommend visiting Dujiangyan over the crowded Chengdu base for an exceptional panda experience.
